Moments in Bloom: Celebrating Nursing Home Week 2026
Dear Friends, Families, and Neighbors,
As the calendar turns to May, our hearts are already opening like the first spring flowers here at Oak Knoll. From Sunday, May 10, through Saturday, May 16, we’ll celebrate National Nursing Home Week with the beautiful 2026 theme:“Moments in Bloom.”
This theme feels especially right this year. It reminds us that the most meaningful experiences don’t arrive in grand gestures, they grow quietly, day by day, from the smallest seeds of kindness. A gentle hand on a shoulder during morning coffee. A shared laugh over a favorite song. A staff member who remembers how a resident likes their tea or a family member who stays just a little longer to hear one more story. These everyday acts of compassion, connection, and teamwork slowly unfold into something vibrant and lasting, relationships that brighten lives and remind us all why we’re here together.
We see these “moments in bloom” every single day in our hallways, court yards, and dining rooms. They’re in the quiet teamwork between nurses, dietary aides, and housekeepers who make sure every resident feels truly seen and cared for. And they’re in the love families bring when they walk through our doors, photos in hand, hearts wide open.
Stories that stay with me happens all the time here at Oak Knoll. Throughout new resident move ins we welcome people as family. At first, some patients feel a bit lost in this new environment, staying mostly alone and missing the familiar routines of home. Then our staff gently encouraged them join our morning coffee gatherings in the dining room, thoughtfully pairing them with some of our longtime residents who share a love for the same hobbies, storytelling, games.
With consistent warmth and encouragement from the team, they slowly begin opening up. What started as quiet listening turned into lively conversations, shared laughs, and exchanged memories. Residents and Oak Knoll's family quickly form a special bond.
Today, this group has truly bloomed into one happy family. They gather every single day to share meals, stories, games, and support each other through both the joyful and challenging moments. I never imagined I’d find such wonderful place here. Oak Knoll has given the seemingly lost, a whole new family.
That’s really the magic of “Moments in Bloom.” It’s not about perfection, it’s about showing up with open hearts and watching ordinary days become extraordinary.
During Nursing Home Week, we invite you to join us in nurturing these moments. Stop by for our open house on Tuesday, May 12, from 2–4 p.m., where residents will share their own “bloom stories.” Families, come create a memory garden with your loved one on Thursday afternoon. Staff, we see you—we’ll be celebrating your dedication with a special appreciation lunch on Wednesday. And everyone is welcome to our Friday ice-cream social happy hour.
Whether you visit once or every day, know that your presence matters more than you’ll ever know.
To our incredible residents: Thank you for trusting us with your stories and teaching us what grace looks like in every season of life.
To our devoted staff: Your compassion is the sunshine that helps every moment bloom.
To our families and community partners: Your love and support are the soil where these beautiful relationships grow.
Let's pause and celebrate.
With warmth and gratitude,
The Oak Knoll Family
